Who We Are

ApoE4 Insights (apoe4insights.org) is a physician-led educational platform dedicated to translating peer-reviewed genomic science into actionable guidance for individuals carrying the APOE ε4 allele, their caregivers, and licensed clinicians. The platform is operated by Brian Paquette, DO, MPH, a double board-certified neurologist and pain medicine specialist practicing in Indianapolis, Indiana.

ApoE4 Insights is an independent educational platform. It does not constitute a medical practice, does not establish a physician-patient relationship, and does not provide individualized medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to deliver the services described on this site. Categories of data collected include:

A. Information You Provide Directly

When you register for a membership, subscribe to the newsletter, submit a contact form, or make a donation, you may provide: full name, email address, professional credentials (for Clinical Pro accounts), and billing information. We do not collect Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, or protected health information (PHI) as defined under HIPAA.

B. Automatically Collected Technical Data

When you visit the site, standard server logs and analytics tools may collect: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, time on page, and device type. This data is used in aggregate to improve site performance and is not used to identify individual users.

C. Sensitive Health-Adjacent Information

This platform addresses APOE ε4 genotype status and Alzheimer’s disease risk. Users may voluntarily disclose genetic status or health history in contact form submissions or member communications. Such disclosures are treated with heightened confidentiality, are never sold or shared with third parties for commercial purposes, and are used solely to contextualize educational responses to your inquiry. This site is not a covered entity under HIPAA. Users should not submit clinical medical records or PHI through this platform.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used exclusively for the following purposes:

Account Management Creating and maintaining your membership account, processing payments, and verifying clinician credentials for Clinical Pro access.
Communications Sending newsletters, research summaries, and transactional emails (e.g., membership confirmations, password resets) via MailPoet. You may unsubscribe from non-transactional emails at any time.
Site Improvement Analyzing aggregated usage patterns to improve content quality, navigation, and accessibility. No individual behavioral profiling is conducted.
Donation Processing Processing charitable contributions to support the platform’s operational and educational mission.
Legal Compliance Retaining records as required by applicable law and responding to lawful requests from governmental authorities.

We do not sell, rent, or license your personal information to any third party for commercial or marketing purposes. We do not serve advertisements. There are no advertising or data-broker relationships on this platform.

Legal Basis for Processing

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with formal data protection frameworks (e.g., GDPR, UK GDPR), we process personal data on the following legal bases:

Contractual necessity — processing required to fulfill membership services you have purchased.

Legitimate interest — aggregate analytics used to improve site quality, where such interests are not overridden by your rights.

Consent — newsletter subscriptions and non-essential communications, which you may withdraw at any time.

Legal obligation — where processing is required by applicable law.

Membership & Payment Data

Membership access is managed through MemberPress. Payment processing is handled by Stripe and/or PayPal for donations. ApoE4 Insights does not store full credit card numbers, CVV codes, or full payment card data on its servers. All payment transactions are processed via PCI DSS-compliant third-party processors.

Stripe and PayPal maintain their own privacy policies governing how payment data is stored and processed. Users are encouraged to review: stripe.com/privacy and paypal.com/us/legalhub/privacy-full.

Cookies & Tracking Technologies

This site uses cookies and similar technologies. Categories of cookies in use include:

Third-Party Services

ApoE4 Insights uses the following third-party service providers. Each is engaged solely for the purposes described below and under written or contractual data handling obligations:

WordPress.com Website hosting and CMS platform. Subject to Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
MemberPress Membership access control and subscription management.
Stripe / PayPal Payment processing for memberships and donations. PCI DSS-compliant.
MailPoet Email newsletter distribution. Subscriber email addresses are stored on the WordPress.com server environment.
Zoho Mail Professional email communication. Inbound inquiries submitted via contact forms are received through this service.
Forminator Contact and intake form processing. Form submissions are stored temporarily in the WordPress database and forwarded via email.

We do not use Facebook Pixel, Google Ads tracking, or any behavioral advertising technology.

Data Retention

We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected:

Active membership accounts — Data is retained for the duration of your active membership and for a reasonable period thereafter to accommodate reactivation or billing disputes.

Email newsletter subscriptions — Retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.

Contact form submissions — Retained for a maximum of 12 months unless an ongoing correspondence requires longer retention.

Payment records — Retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations (typically 7 years under U.S. IRS guidelines).

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal data. We honor all such requests in compliance with applicable law:

Right of Access Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
